Being centrally located in the state of Florida, Port St. Lucie is two to three hours away from world class entertainment and all major sports. Locally we have two beautifuly renovated theatres, local theatre groups and professional baseball.
The revitalization of downtown Fort Pierce has been a great success for the city. The downtown waterfront area has developed new busineses along with a weekly green market. Monthly concerts and ” Friday Fest ” on the first Friday of each month with arts and crafts and local musical groups keep these areas of the city buzzing with activity all year round. The fishing in these waters are well known around the world.
The Sunrise Theatre was recently re-opened after an extensive renovation over a long period of time. The Theatre is bringing in national and international musical and theatre groups along with top-notch comedians and national Boadway touring companies. The management is doing its best to book these acts on a regular basis and we as residents of St. Lucie county are fortunate to have this venue and save us the travel time to West Palm Beach for the same shows.
St. Lucie West and the town of Tradition are relatively new communities that offer a wide variety of new schools,shopping,and community gathering spots along with easy access to I-95.
St. Lucie West, being a little bit older, has many established gated communities with privacy and security that many people look for today. Professional baseball has been established in St. Lucie West since 1988. The New York Mets spring training facility is active with the major league ball club from February to the end of March every year. If you ever wanted to get up-close and personal with the players, and fell like you are 10 years old again, this is the place for you. After the the big leaguers vacate Tradition Field, the St.Lucie Mets play a 70-game home schedule thru the month of August. The minor league club is in the Florida State League and is a high ” Class-A ” ball club in the Mets orginization. We have seen many a future major leaguer come thru Port St. Lucie in the 20-plus years of pro ball here.
The town of Stuart in Martin county is located about 10 miles south of Port St. Lucie. An older established downtown offers many fine restaurants and specialty shops to keep you busy. There are many music and arts and crafts festivals happening throughout the year. The Lyric Theatre located in the heart of the downtown , offers not only local theatre groups, but national and international recording acts. One week you can see the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and the next the Edgar Winter Group. That variety should cover the spectrum for everyone.
Professional sports are well represented in the state of Florida. In Miami we have the Florida Marlins of Major League Baseball, the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association, the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League, and the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League. Further north in the Tampa and Orlando areas you will find the second group of teams. In Orlando there is the Orlando Magic of the N.B.A. Over in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area there is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the N.F.L., the Tampa Bay Rays of M.L.B., and the Tampa Bay Lightning of the N.H.L. We can’t forget about the Daytona 500 in Daytona which kicks off the Nascar racing season every year.
If sports is not your thing, the Kennedy Space Center offers an incredible look at the history of space and space flight in our countrys’ history, And one more thing: Mickey Mouse is usually at home in Orlando.
