a. History in PSL

For the first twenty-five years of their time  in the Major Leagues, the New York Mets were located in St. Petersburg,FL. sharing a facility with the St. Louis Cardinals. With the planning stages of the St. Lucie West  community in full swing, Mr. Thomas J. White and company let it be known that St. Lucie County was looking for a Major League ballclub to occupy the brand new complex that was to be built. He found one; and in 1988 the Mets moved in to their new Spring Training home. For the past 20 plus years the people of St. Lucie and the surrounding counties have enjoyed seeing some of the finest ballplayers in the world.

From mid-February thru the month of March, fans can visit the complex any day and see both Major League players and minor league players at all levels of the organization.  Recently the team and county reached an agreement on a new deal to keep the team here for an additional 20 years. In this up and down economy, this brings in a much needed revenue stream for the county and allows us fans to have a much needed break.
